A tribute to the Father of Bluegrass, the Lafferty Mad Monroe brings together traditional mandolin craftsmanship, vintage character, and the extraordinary talents of former Gibson Master Luthier David Harvey.
Each Mad Monroe begins its journey with Lafferty’s small team of skilled craftsmen in Qingdao, China, where the instrument is carefully constructed. Once completed, it is placed in the hands of David Harvey, who personally performs the final assembly, professional setup, and complete hand-distressed treatment and finishing.
Drawing on decades of experience at Gibson, David meticulously ages each instrument to capture the look, feel, and personality of a mandolin that has spent a lifetime making music. Every detail of the distressing process is completed by hand, ensuring no two Mad Monroe mandolins are exactly alike.
What makes the Mad Monroe even more extraordinary is its connection to bluegrass history. Each instrument features an authentic Bill Monroe autograph, obtained directly from the Monroe family, along with a David Harvey signature label documenting his personal craftsmanship.
