I just purchased an Eastman F-style MD514 with oval sound hole. There are several positive comments I can share about the transaction with The Mandolin Store, but one feature in particular is specifically worth sharing.
When my Eastman arrived, I took time to play/compare my Gibson F5 and the Eastman side by side. Aside from tonal contrasts between the two, I was quite taken by how surprisingly easy the Eastman played. Switching back and forth, studying, measuring, etc--I was stumped by what was making the Eastman so easy to play compared to the Gibson. Truth is I'm gonna chalk it up to the pro setup of the Eastman. Even with its heavier string set than I typically use, playability was fast and smooth, the action was beautifully low and without a single buzz or twang up the entire fretboard. The instrument was perfectly responsive, the tone was clear and articulated--but it's the surprising ease of playability that had me putting my Gibson back in the case. The website said "...Pro setup included." Well...that was no lie.

This place is incredible. Where else can you try 30 high-quality mandolins in one room? The owner was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable - when I told him what I was looking for, he picked out exactly the mandolin I needed (I still tried all the others, but he was right). I (Andy) talked with Zach Vance extensively about a new mandolin and picked up an Eastman 515cc tru tone which is more of the cherry/red color after Zach said he just liked the tone better. Being somewhat new to playing Zach led me in the right direction for a great setup instrument and great sounding mandolin. I didn’t realize how effortless playing can be and how much more enjoyable it is from my hand me down I started out with. Great selection and specialized sales. I had a bad experience shopping Amazon for a KM1050 mandolin and it was set right buying from the mandolin store. Not only can you get a lemon on Amazon, you get no support. I returned my mandolin and bought the same model from TMS. It was a great experience and I recommend them 100%. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Came in a couple weeks ago and left with a new-to-me, perfectly set up Eastman mandolin. The shop owner, Zach, gave me space to try things out, and was willing to answer any questions I had about an instrument. Ordered a 315 mando from them. Zach was awesome and answered all my questions during the process about care etc. The mandolin was well packaged and protected for shipping.
